Viper Gecko FAQ

Can viper geckos live together?

Yes. Viper geckos are communal and do well in small groups when there are enough hides and space. Males can be territorial with each other, so one male with several females, or an all-female group, works best.

Do viper geckos need UVB and a heat lamp?

Our care guide recommends low-output UVB and a thermostat-controlled heat lamp, with a hot spot of 90-95°F at the top of the background and a cool side of 75°F or less. Let temperatures drop to room temperature at night and never heat overnight.

What do viper geckos eat?

They are insectivores. Dubia nymphs and isopods make great staples, with crickets, silkworms and hornworms for variety. We suggest feeding 3-4 appropriately sized prey items every 2-3 days in the evening, with calcium dusting.

Can I keep viper geckos in a bioactive setup?

Yes. They are an ideal choice for a shared bioactive enclosure with a cork background, hides and a drainage layer. Isopods and springtails from our supplies page make a good clean-up crew.
