Isopod FAQ
What are isopods used for?
Isopods break down waste, mold and decaying plant matter, which keeps a bioactive terrarium clean. Many keepers also enjoy them as colorful display animals.
What do isopods eat?
Mostly decaying leaf litter and rotting wood, plus small amounts of vegetables. Keep leaf litter stocked and remove uneaten fresh food before it molds.
How wet should their enclosure be?
Damp but not soaked, with a drier area they can move to. Good ventilation and plenty of leaf litter and bark for cover help them thrive.
Can I keep isopods with geckos?
Yes. Isopods are a common clean-up crew in bioactive setups for crested geckos and viper geckos, and some geckos will eat them too. See our crested geckos and viper geckos.
